Cornwall Moth Group Notice Board

Cotton grass and pomegranates

John Gregory, a member of the Cornwall Moth Group is interested in receiving the following items:

John believes that the tiny micro moth Glyphipterix haworthana is very under recorded in Cornwall, the only existing record here dating back to 1961. The caterpillars and pupae of this moth may yet be found in the seed heads of cotton grass in marshy areas. He is also interested in any samples from any other location.

John is also interested in collecting the tops of pomegranate fruits to see if they contain caterpillars or cocoons.

If you are able to collect samples of seed heads or pomegranates, please send them to John Gregory, Lepidoptera House, Bodelva, Par, Cornwall, PL24 2SZ, stating date, location, grid ref and contact details.

Dissection volunteer wanted

John Gregory is prepared to loan a microscope to someone who is willing to undertake identification of moths by dissection - not for the faint hearted. Please contact John (details as above).
